Abstract

This study presents findings derived from a synthesis of theoretical and empirical insights into crime and the efficacy of criminal policy in Serbia. It explores theoretical approaches to the conceptualization of "crime", a term universally recognized yet theoretically ambiguous regarding its generic boundaries and scientific definition. The study provides an analysis of the theory of crime alongside an empirical evaluation of data firmly grounded in research. The paper serves as a convergence of two distinct perspectives on the same research subject: crime and the institutional reaction to it. It integrates global theoretical research with empirical findings in Serbia, tracing the procedural trajectory from arrest and suspicion, through indictment and judgment, to imprisonment for property crimes. The synthesis of these variables provides a comprehensive representation of the complex interactions between criminal activity and law enforcement efforts.
